When it rains it pours

I’m afraid that I am going to have to put my 365 photography project on hold. This past weekend, our internet went down at home, which is why I haven’t posted anything here. Yesterday was a holiday, so today is my first day back in front of a computer because I am at work. A technician is coming this afternoon to fix the router at home, and my plan was to get caught up with my 365 project this evening.  Not a big deal.
But, I arrived at work this morning and received a text message saying that there has been a death in my family. Not only that…more text messages…our car broke down and is in the shop for repairs, my kid is sick so I have to leave work to go pick her up, my husband injured his hand at work and is on his way to the ER. It’s not even 9:30am yet.
I take a few deep breaths and run out for another coffee.
My great aunt, who was 92 passed away in her sleep. The funeral is on Thursday or Friday. I don’t think we will be able to make it. My parents are okay with that. My husband is okay, he just needs a few stitches. My babysitter can pick up my daughter from school until I can leave work, hopefully before lunch time.

I open my work email and I receive a message from my Supervisor saying that my name has come up in the random draw for my files to be audited by Quality Assurance…today. Fucking great.

And the hits just keep on coming.
I have 35 client files, the largest caseload on my team. Fuck it, I’ll hand the files over as they are and if I get my knuckles rapped for not keeping my files in perfect order, too bad, I have a life and I have other priorities right now.

Needless to say, I will not be in Second Life for a few days at least.

My mind is racing , and I have a lot of things and people to take care of. Taking some time out to update here was one thing I had to do for myself so I don't go completely insane.  Somehow, I have to find the energy to do what I need to do and hold it all together.

All I really feel like doing is sitting down and crying.

Playing around with Surface Blur in PhotoShop.

88 of 365: Just standing around

I put away all my winter stuff last weekend, and now I have zero motivation to do anything with my parcel besides just stand around on it.  I have some new trees and shrubs and stuff, but I'm still too tired to really focus.

Hopefully, I can catch up on some sleep this weekend and I'll be feeling normal again.

87 of 365: Awesome machinima by ColeMarie Soleil

No time to log in tonight...actually, that's not true.  I have time but I'm choosing to be a couch potato and watch a movie instead tonight because I am EXHAUSTED.

But I would like to share with you a machinima by ColeMarie Soleil featuring the work of Bryn Oh and the music of Soleil, which is comprised of ColeMarie Soleil and Arai Tasuku.

Soleil released their first album last month on iTunes.

I haven't been to one of ColeMarie's inworld performances in awhile, but I will be keeping my eyes on the events listings for her shows in the future.

Enjoy :)

86 of 365: Topiary Art Piece

In my two years in Second Life, I've had the privilege of befriending some really talented and creative people.  One of those people is Alexzel3D Chesnokov, who I met when I lived in the Costa Rica Sims Estate.

I met her when I was hovering above her parcel admiring the giant Topiary Ballerina sculpture she created.  It's beautiful and I love it, and it's one the few things in my inventory that I feel really attached to.

Now that spring has arrived in Piper Point, I'm looking for a good spot to rez her on my parcel.

Alexzel creates many other fantastic products as well, which are available on the SL Marketplace.  The Topiary Ballerina comes in three sizes and is 68 prims.

If you would like to come and see it inworld, send me and i.m and I'll send you a tp to my parcel to come check it out :))

85 of 365: I don't have HBO

I was a little disappointed tonight because I was really interested in watching When Strangers Click which premiered tonight on HBO - a film about five stories of people who have met online.  We got rid of our cable tv package recently because we don't watch a whole lot of television and we can watch movies online.

Well, wouldn't you know it, once we got rid of our 300 plus channels, I start seeing previews on basic cable for all these programs I want to watch that are only available on "specialty" channels.

At least I got to watch Paisley Beebe's interview with the director of the documentary on Treet TV, and maybe it will become viewable online later this year.

In the meantime, I explored the Great Wall of China in SL, which according to the Destination Guide, was a featured location in the documentary.

I suppose I will just have to take everyone's word that the documentary is a good one and finally casts Second Life in a better light than some previous documentaries that are out there.  If you happen to have watched it, wanna let me know what you thought of it?  Thanks!

Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day! xoxo

84 of 365: Embryo

I took these photos yesterday morning with intentions of coming back in the evening to post them.  For a lot of reasons, I didn't make it back to my laptop all day.  So I'll be doing two posts for my 365 project today.

The Second Life Destination Guide describes Embryo as a location that defies explanation.  I would agree with that, and I would also add that it is beautiful, mysterious and even somewhat isolating in the sparse watery landscape.

I noticed that there was another snowy wooded area behind the trees in the photos below.  I didn't get a chance to explore there yesterday, but I will be back later today to take some more photos.

Visit Embryo in Second Life

ETA:  The SLurl will land you on top of the store.  The area in the photos below is outside of the store area, but it's visible enough that you can easily find it by camming around.

82 of 365

I feel like I've hit a wall with my 365 project.  I've run out of inspiration (already) and I'm thinking that I need to try something different, or learn something new.

It also is likely that this massive three day headache that I have has something to do with this as well.  It's actually not my eyesight that is causing the headache, as I originally thought.  I finally went to the doctor today and I have Sinusitis, or a sinus infection.  It must be bad because he gave me a prescription for anti-biotics.  My ears are plugged, my eyes are sore and irritated, and my face hurts.  And I thought a new pair of glasses would fix that.  Wrong answer. [insert fog horn here]

But I still have to drag my ass to work this week because it's not contagious, and I have a ton of crap ( i mean work) to do.

Did I mention it is also been -25 degrees here in the morning for the past two weeks?  I actually heard someone on the subway today say "it's going to be warm next week, 0 degrees!"  Woohoo!  That's celcius, not fahrenheit.

Okay, I should wrap this up now.  No sense in making anyone else suffer along with me.

Three days, the doctor said, and I should be feeling better.

80 of 365: No fresh ideas for photos tonight...

...so I give you a huge pic of my avatar face:

I think I need a new prescription for my glasses.  I'm going on year three of the ones I have now, so I think it's about time to visit the eye doctor.  My eyes feel strained and tired, so I'm sure that has a lot to do with my low inspiration for taking photos this week.

God I'm getting old.

78 of 365: Tranquillo - Tower of Meditation

Sometimes my weekends at home get so busy, and chaotic and LOUD, that by the time Sunday evening rolls around, I'm actually kind of looking forward to getting to my desk at work on Monday morning just so I can have a break!

I almost skipped logging in tonight because I just wanted to go to sleep and put an end to all the madness.  I'm glad I didn't skip SL tonight because I found just what I needed....Tranquillo.

The Tower of Meditation in Tranquillo is a 700 steps, 250 m high build into the sky.  Follow the spiral staircase to the meditation pillows and tai chi pose balls on the platforms.  There is even an Intan couples dance ball at the very top of the tower...if you're not afraid of heights.

This was the perfect spot for me to spend some quiet time at the end of my hectic weekend.

77 of 365: Getting out more

It's been awhile since I've attended a live music performance.  Grace McDunnough always gives outstanding performances.  If you like laid back, acoustic music, then you will enjoy her sets.

I'm starting to feel like all I do is take pictures in SL, which of course I wanted to do for my 365 project, I guess I just need a little bit of a change.  Being at Grace's show tonight, I felt like I have been missing out on a lot of great things going on in SL because I am busy taking pictures or looking for places to take pictures.

I need to get out more.

I thought this was an interesting piece...

It's just one among many strange and beautiful works of art at Mysterious Wave.

74 of 365: "High Greed Internet"

If you live in Canada and use the internet as much as I do, you will be interested in this short video commentary about the recent Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) decision to allow the big ISP's to issue Usage Based Internet Billing.  Basically, your internet bill will become pretty much like your data plan for your smartphone - expensive, restrictive and totally fucking confusing.

So Canada takes a step back into the dark ages...but the government has called for a review of the decision and who knows, if enough of us kick up a fuss about this, the decision could get overturned if the CRTC doesn't take it back.

Greedy bastards.

73 of 365: My boy is sick

I don't think I will be making it in-world tonight.  My son has been running a high fever all day and I've been busy looking after him.  Even if I do happen to find some time to log in, I am too tired to even think about taking a photo tonight, and I've run out of extras to fill in for days like this.

Poor thing.  He still looks like a little angel to me when he sleeps.
